Popular Tourist Spots in Nainital

Nainital, the “Lake District of India,” is one of Uttarakhand's most loved destinations, offering scenic beauty, spirituality, adventure, and rich colonial charm. Below are some of the most popular attractions you must visit during your trip.

Naina Devi Temple: Located on the northern shore of Naini Lake, Naina Devi Temple is dedicated to Maa Naina Devi, represented by two divine eyes. After being destroyed in the devastating landslide of 1880, the temple was rebuilt due to its immense cultural and spiritual significance. It is one of the most sacred places to visit in Nainital.

Naini Lake: Nestled amidst seven mountains, Naini Lake is the heart of Nainital. Its calm, pristine waters offer opportunities for boating, paddling, and yachting. The lake is divided into two parts:

  • Mallital (north end)
  • Tallital (south end)

Both ends feature vibrant markets, luxury shops, cafés, and scenic walking areas. At night, the reflection of the hillside lights creates a magical view, making it feel as if an entire city is floating beneath the lake's surface. The lake's perimeter is approximately 3.5 km and attracts families, honeymooners, writers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers.

The Mall Road: Connecting Mallital and Tallital, Mall Road is the busiest street in Nainital. Renamed Govind Ballabh Pant Marg, the road is lined with hotels, restaurants, banks, travel agencies, and lively street shops. During peak season (May-June), vehicles are restricted to maintain smooth pedestrian movement.

The Flats: Located beside the lake in Mallital, The Flats is a spacious ground used for cultural events, festivals, and children's activities. It also houses the statue of Govind Ballabh Pant, Naina Devi Temple, a mosque, a gurudwara, and the famous Bhotia Market—popular for unique local products and street foods.

Zoo:Situated 2 km from the bus station at an altitude of 2,100 meters, the Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo is home to rare Himalayan wildlife, including:
